We took a very quick trip from Nang Rong, Thailand to Siem Reap, Cambodia to see the famous Angkor Wat and other ancient temples in that area. We left Nang Rong on Tuesday, spent the full day Wednesday at the Archeological park, and were back by Thursday afternoon. This trip is described in my blog at www.opportunityfoundation.org/ofblog.
Seven years ago I took a great many pictures so this time I took only a few, and those featured the people on this trip. Ta Prohm is my favorite of all the temples. I wish they could have left the trees in more places there, and in place in some of the other temples. They do tear things apart over time, however.
The site was far less crowded than I anticipated since being there seven years ago. It was relatively easy to get our photos taken standing in front of places where EVERYONE gets their photo taken.
The Millenium Hotel in the Old Town area of Siem Reap. Very similar to many other hotels there.
Sue at the bottom of the stairs up to the Angkor Wat Temple Platform. Very steep wood stairs with rails make for an easier, if less exciting, climb than seven years ago.
Our Thai friend Joy in the Angkor Wat courtyard area.
The back of Angkor Wat.
I turned around from the previous picture and this is the view out from the back of Angkor Wat.
Sue stands by a tree near the entrance of Ta Prohm in the Angkor temple area.
Sue, Joy and I stand where everyone wants their picture taken. Not nearly as crowded as I thought here.
Sue in front of one of the many trees at Ta Prohm.
This picture captures much of the feeling I have at Ta Prohm.
Sue in front of a tree that has been growing at an impossible angle for many years.
The next picture I took, another tree at Ta Prohm.
Is it bad world economy? This is peak season. Only three people watch the play at the night market. There were as many vendors as people.
