Caring for Abused, Abandoned and Trafficked Children

During recent years the Thai government has improved child protection laws and has strained limited government resources to address the increasing need for social services for abused and abandoned children. There is a great need for private foundations to supplement the government programs, particularly in providing trauma care, rehabilitation and long term care for abuse victims. There are few organizations in Thailand, or anywhere in Asia, with professional staff and facilities to care for children who are victims of family, community or trafficking abuse.

Buriram Province, where Opportunity Foundation is located, and its neighboring provinces are primary sources of trafficked children and women, and domestic violence and child abuse are common. Opportunity Foundation is also strategically located only sixty kilometers from Cambodia, a country where many children and women are trafficked to neighboring countries and further abroad.
